SBB’s sites in the vicinity of the tracks between Zurich main station and Altstetten are amongst the last major areas for development in the city. With the upcoming transformation of SBB’s workshops, the 40,000-square-metre site is to be developed from an industrial estate to an attractive venue for cultural centres, innovative commercial and industrial companies and start-ups. Named “Werkstadt Zurich” (“Zurich’s creative centre), a vibrant hub for work and leisure will be developed in the next 20 years which will merge with the neighbouring districts to form a new urban area.
