Since the underground motorway was built, the site around St. Johann station has gained new central significance with regard to urban development, due to a number of projects including the new residential buildings on Voltastrasse, the planned construction of the new natural history museum south of the station and the Volta Nord development site. The Dreijohann building is to be built for SBB using state-of-the-art timber construction methods for the first time.
