Together with the city of Kloten and two other land holders, SBB commissioned an urban planning study in 2017. The winning project was adapted into a development proposal and converted into two development plans (one private and one public). The plan is to construct a new station building with an integrated bus station and mixed use spaces (primarily residential, with spaces for retail, sales and food and drink on the ground floor) on the SBB site north of the station, with opening from 2026 onwards. Possible uses laid down for the ground floor and first floor are medical/physiotherapy centres, fitness centres, schools and small businesses.
